School Choice

RCS will continue its participation in the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP) for the 2017-18 school year!

What is the Wisconsin Parental Choice Program (WPCP)?

The WPCP allows parents who meet financial eligibility requirements to choose Christ-centered education for their son or daughter. Qualifying students will receive a voucher to attend RCS tuition free. This recently new state-funded program will allow more families to choose this educational option for their kids. At RCS, we are excited to have the opportunity to impact the faith lives of more families as we provide their children with an excellent Christ-centered education.

Who qualifies for WPCP?

There are 2 primary qualifications: income and prior year attendance.

Family income must be at or below 185% of federal poverty level. The table below contains income limits for the 2017-18 school year.

Family Size Single Family Married Family
2 $29,637
3 $37,296 $44,296
4 $44,955 $51,955
5 $52,614 $59,614
6 $60,273 $67,273

Prior Year Attendance

Students must meet one of the following attendance requirements:

  1. Attended public school in 2016-17
  2. Not enrolled in school in 2016-17
  3. Entering 4K, 5K, or 1st grade in 2017-18
  4. Participated in WPCP in 2016-17

How do I apply?

  1. The process begins by applying for a voucher via the state DPI website. The application period for the 2017-18 school year is from February 1 – April 20th, 2017. Parents must complete the on-line student application available through the DPI website:
  2. Families will need to provide income documentation and proof of residency to RCS. The DPI has instructions on what documentation is acceptable for verification.
  3. The DPI will notify parents of acceptance. The number of students is limited to 2% of each school district (this cap increases by 1% each year). If the number of applications exceeds 2%, the DPI will conduct a random drawing of eligible applications. Others will be placed on a waiting list.

Where can I get more information?

There is a lot information out there on the Wisconsin school choice programs. It can get a little overwhelming, especially since there are 3 different choice programs in the state! Here's a list of resources you may find valuable:

  • Contact RCS School Choice Committee - We've reviewed a lot of the information, and a few of us have been to the DPI training on the WPCP. If we don't know the answer, we are willing to help you find it!
  • Wisconsin DPI website - Contains a lot of detailed information, FAQs, statistics, etc. Look for information on Wisconsin Parental School Choice (WPCP)
  • School Choice Wisconsin - Advocate organization that promotes the WI school choice programs. They also have a secondary site more focused for prospective parents at
